TO SYLACAUGA'S FUTURE!
FROM THE PRESIDENT
The year 2018 marks a significant date for the Sylacauga Schools Foundation. We are celebrating 30 years as a Foundation and over 1.2 million dollars given through grants to enhance the continuing excellence that our students receive! As we embark upon what lies ahead we aspire to new heights and new avenues of service.
Mission Statement: To improve the quality of education for children by providing financial support to teachers and programs.
Two buzz words are very prevalent in our conversations these days: “sustainability” and “legacy.” In any organization, club, or membership we constantly ask ourselves “is this particular opportunity worthy of our time, talent, and resources?” With regard to the Schools Foundation we have a proven record of strong viability in our grants that reflect sustainability which partners with classroom instruction. Our Foundation strives to touch the lives of all students by enriching and energizing existing or new programs. Yes, the Foundation is leaving a sustainable legacy to Sylacauga City Schools.
As the first Schools Foundation for K-12 education in the state of Alabama we are so grateful for the insight of Dr. Joseph B. Morton. His leadership in establishing this organization in 1988 was one that set the standard for all future foundations in our state. This dream became a reality beginning with a vision coupled with enthusiastic support from community leaders. These leaders desired at the Foundation’s very core to partner with the schools in their efforts to make Sylacauga a program of excellence. We are so grateful for the men and women who paved the road for students to inherit the many benefits that this Foundation provides.
Excellence in Education is the goal of our entire school system, including the Foundation leadership, the Sylacauga City Schools Superintendent and Board of Education, the school administrators, faculty, and staff. It is with deep appreciation that we say a heartfelt thank you to the many individuals, families, corporations, organizations, clubs, and alumni classes who have given so generously to make all of this a reality. From the very first Chair honoring Congressman Bill Nichols to the recently added 50th Chair we are so humbled to be a part of something that touches our very future---our children!
On this 30th anniversary year we invite you to partner with us in many exciting ways. Each October we host an annual 5K/Fun Run. In December we will sponsor a Breakfast with Santa, an event that kicks off the Christmas season with music provided by high school students, picture opportunities with Santa, and a delicious breakfast. As you enjoy the website you will find other ways to partner with the School Foundation. We are very excited to announce the “30 for 30 Campaign” in our 30th Anniversary year. Please take a moment to look at the website to find out how you can be a part of this exciting program!
The Sylacauga City Schools Foundation has a deep desire to grow and give back to our students. The collective goal is to be sustainable in a way that leaves a legacy of educational excellence for all! Please join us and make a difference!
FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
On behalf of the Sylacauga City Schools Foundation, thank you for your support – past, present and future.
This Foundation makes great things happen from pre-kindergarten through graduation. By partnering with us, you become an investor in the future of our students. Sylacauga City Schools Foundation works to enhance the school system as a whole by providing the opportunity for teachers to receive supplemental funding through grant requests.
Grants from the Foundation inspire, ensure, and enhance the outstanding learning experience Sylacauga students consistently receive. To date, the Foundation has awarded more than $1.2 million in the areas of technology, fine arts, literacy, reading, STEM, and library enhancements which has affected more than 357,000 students. This is amazing, and all families and teachers should be grateful to those who had the foresight to establish the Foundation in 1988, making it the first in the state of Alabama for K-12 education. Throughout these years children and now grandchildren have benefitted.
The current endowment of over $1.5 million is a substantial base, but unfortunately not enough to fully fund the school system’s growing needs. Your partnership with the Foundation is crucial to its continued ability to supplement Sylacauga City Schools. Donations must continue; pledges must be made; and the corpus of the endowment must continue to grow. Sylacauga is an outstanding community because of its residents, its leadership, and its school system. Partner with us; invest with us. You will see the daily impact your gift has for decades to come.
